Sea Otter
The sea otters, like the beaver, were hunted for their thick, luscious, and waterproof pelts. Since the early 1900s, their numbers were able to increase, only again to decrease because of man. The main reason for their decline is oil spills. The oil gets into their thick coats, and they lick their coats clean, in turn getting sick from the oil ingestion. The sea otters also get caught and stuck in fishing nets.
This is an acrylic on a 12" by 12" wooden panel with a clear coat of shellac. The blue waves are raised.
